Entrepreneurial spirits...
Roshan Nelson
-
started her own youth theatre company at the age
of 17 and wrote, directed and acted in numerous community theatre
productions in her hometown of Fort Nelson,
BC. For four years, she
worked as the Operations Coordinator for the Phoenix
Theatre, a multi-
million dollar 275 seat performing arts / film theatre and was responsible
for the marketing and promotions of film, theatre and gallery events.
Roshan left the
Theatre to attend college in Lethbridge and graduated in 1999 with a
Communication Arts
diploma in Advertising and Public Relations. While in college she
worked for
Adair Advertising and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery's Public Relations
department. Upon graduation, she was then hired by
The REACH Corporation, a
Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC)
as its
Community and Economic
Development Intern then Economic Development Officer / Marketing Consultant for
the two
county regions of St. Paul and Smoky Lake, Alberta.
She
then spent four years as the Alberta Main Street Programme's Vilna Main Street
Project Coordinator implementing the Programme's "Four Point Approach" (Design,
Marketing, Organization & Economic Development) to community development,
heritage preservation and downtown revitalization.
Roshan was responsible for numerous community and economic
development initiatives,
marketing, public relations, graphic design, website creation, organization,
volunteer
recruitment and coordinating the promotion and implementation of over
70
special events
and fundraisers. Alongside the Project Architect,
David Murray of
Edmonton,
and many
local contractors, she worked to restore or enhance over 20 heritage
buildings
on Vilna's
Historic Main Street - making it one of the most complete and most
successful
Alberta Main
Street Projects in the history of the Alberta Main Street Programme. During this
time, she
also worked to restore the Vilna Pool Hall & Barbershop, Alberta's oldest, as a member of
the Friends of the Vilna Pool Hall Society.
Her
work also included writing the grant application for an Infrastructure Canada -
Alberta
Program (ICAP) that resulted in a $600,000 Streetscape Improvement to Vilna's
Historic Main
Street. Completed in 2005, this project boasts wooden boardwalk sidewalks,
antique-style
decorative lights, benches, historic street signs and the re-surfacing of Main
Street, thereby
improving safety and storm water drainage issues while achieving the truly
ambitious
"Vilna Vision". Vilna, a true Alberta boomtown, is a project
that has been featured
prominently in newspapers, magazines and on Alberta radio and television in
addition
to garnering national coverage in the Toronto Globe & Mail.

Heather
Sellors - After living a
year abroad in Europe, Heather returned
to her hometown of Fort Nelson and began her career in the communications
industry. With a media and newsprint background, she was hired as the
Fort Nelson & District Chamber of
Commerce's Executive Director and
quickly transformed the organization into a financially stable
community leader and local business advocate.
For five years, she annually
developed, planned, promoted and implemented four of
Fort Nelson's major community events:
-
The Fort Nelson & District Trade Show which now features over 200 exhibitors
and
3000 attendees having grown to include the curling rink area in addition to the
hockey
arena and Rec Centre parking lot
-
Moonlight Madness kicked-off the holiday season for local retailers in a
unique joint
cross-promotional campaign that also grew to include home-based businesses
-
Business & Community Excellence Awards (formerly known as the President's
Ball
honored the achievements of local citizens and businesses with a
themed dinner and
entertainment while raising money for the Chamber through
corporate sponsorships, live
& silent auctions and brisk ticket sales for
this hugely popular semi-formal gala
-
Summer Solstice, a unique summer-time 'Shop Local' event was created to
coincide
on the longest day of the year, June 21st
She
also developed many other local informational event campaigns including the
All-Candidates Forum for political candidates and attracted many influential
leaders
of industry to the monthly General Membership Meeting of the Chamber of
Commerce
including the President of the BC Chamber of Commerce and President of
BC Hydro.
Instrumental in the preparations for
the 2004 BC Oil & Gas Conference, Heather also
organized the tremendously successful Business Trade Show & Networking Event
that was
a great favorite of the many attendees. She also the managed the seasonal
operation
of the Fort Nelson Visitor Centre, which served more than 300,000 annual
visitors to the
World Famous Alaska Highway.
In so
doing, she developed the experience and skillset in all facets of the
communications
industry having to produce all of her marketing ideas "in-house" and within
budget. After
leaving the Chamber in 2006, Heather joined Boomtown Communications as a
co-owner
to enjoy the diversity of private business and her passion for the industry.

With a dynamic,
experienced and talented team in place, Boomtown Communications
is a full-service advertising and public relations agency that has all of the
"in-house"
skillsets required to not only produce creative concepts but to implement them
too.
Great
ideas. Great service. On time. On budget. |
